Practising editing music videos The Muppet Show Theme

The filming of this piece took roughly 3 hours. This does not include the planning of the filming, which took around 2 hours. This, for a 47 second piece, gives me an understanding of how long my actual piece will take to film. To plan the music video we made a storyboard, planning each scene matching to the music. This helped us greatly as it allowed us to make each scene in a chronological order making it easier to film as we don't get confused at what we are doing our where we are at. The footage itself looked very good, as all the lip syncing is in time and looks neat. however, in regards to the continuity editing, we are wearing different clothes in some of the scenes, which makes it look less professional.
Editing this theme tune was very different from editing a movie opening, which I did for my A1 topic. This was because we had many other factors to think about; for example, the way the music video we were creating matches the music. Also the way that we had to lip sync the entire of our piece met other challenges as we had to make sure we were in time when recording, then edit it so it flows with the theme tune and keeps it looking interesting and professional.
We had to think about Andrew Goodwin's theory about music videos and apply what he said to our own creation. This meant we had to make sure the lyrics and visuals were matching and to keep the video from looking strange. Furthermore we had to think about the voyeurism of the shots and whether we looked into the camera or we kept looking away- which we ultimately decided to look into the camera to engage the audience more. Finally we had to keep the genre and visuals linked so the video actually matches the comedy genre of the music and TV show.
We also worked with a green screen which again adapted our skills so we can use them for our actual music video piece. This gaining of skill has allowed us to learn how to use Premiere Pro in a more adapted way which will benefit us in our actual piece.
However, we did not finish our piece due to unexpected events meaning people let us down when it came to filming. This has shown me how important time management actually is and how important getting reliable actors actually is.
Overall the creation of this music video has given us more knowledge and skill on how to use the programme and how to edit for a music video and has benefited us greatly as we now know the general idea on how to edit music videos, but does show how hard it will be making a 3 minute video compared to this 47 second one.

Extension to the previous post:

The way Andrew Goodwin wrote his book 'Dancing in the Distraction Factory' in 1992, yet can be applied to music videos from the 1980s, shows how music videos form the 80s influenced him to write his book. For example, his first convention, Video and Genre, where the context and the look of the video both link with each other, as seen in Material Girl. This shows that this music video that I analysed in my previous post, can be seen as a resource for Andrew Goodwin, which he could have analysed and came up with his theory of Video and Genre. This shows 80s music videos to be highly important for his book, and could have set the stride for current music videos that we see today. Another example is the use of voyeurism in Material Girl and Total eclipse of the heart. This use of voyeurism expresses the female body to be used and for men to look at, emphasising the theme of the 'male gaze'. However, another use of voyeurism is through 'Sledgehammer' which shows hi...

With the filming all done, and the triple-screen edited, I have almost finished my music video! All I need to do now is finish off the final bits of editing and then  will be able to upload my music video.
